From Rags to Riches

Rhiannon Rees went from being homeless to owning a successful ActionCOACH franchise.

Rhiannon Rees went from being homeless to owning a successful ActionCOACH franchise.

It’s stories like these that makes Brad Sugars proud he started ActionCOACH.

Rhiannon Rees was a single mom who had gone through a complicated divorce, a breakdown of her once successful spa, and had to live in a tent on the streets of Canada with her four-year-old son. Add to this her mother getting terribly ill back in Australia, and having to borrow $10,000 to travel back and take care of her mother, in addition to her son.

“One night I was reflecting on how much our life sucked,” Rees said. “I dreamt up the most ridiculous amount of money I could earn in a month so we’d never live like that again and scribbled it on a scrap of paper.”

During her time in Australia, Rees said she ran into an old friend who had once told her she’d make a great business coach based on her experience.  Rees found out about ActionCOACH and applied for a loan to cover the cost for business coaching training.

Her persistence paid off: that figure she scribbled on a paper when she was barely getting by? She made it early this year, and she doubled that amount last month. Read her inspiring story here.

Brad Sugars Helps the Read & Recover Initiative

Brad Sugars with Read 'n Recover founder Jenny White

Brad Sugars with Read 'n Recover founder Jenny White

Something Brad Sugars likes to do, besides coaching businesses to success, is donate to worthy charities. Not only has he helped the Cancer Schmancer organization raise about $8,000, he also donated 250 bikes for local radio station KLUC’s bike drive last Christmas. Sugars’ donation brought the number just past the 1,400 bike mark, inching the station closer to its goal of 1,500 bikes.

Sugars is always looking to help. Which is why during Christmas last year, he posted something about wanting to grant Christmas wishes on his Facebook page.  He asked for all his friends to post on his wall what they wanted for Christmas, and he’d pick a few wishes to make come true.

Jenny White saw that post. White’s son had just been released from the hospital where he was being treated for bouts of pneumonia. Books kept him going through the many nights in hospital, and White found that many hospitals had very “used” books or no books at all.

White asked if Sugars might consider donating 100 books to 10 hospitals in Sydney. He not only granted that wish, but donated 1,600 books for 100 hospitals all across Australia. White was so grateful, and the book donation will continue each year now.

Brad Sugars’ Business is Booming Tour Coming Up Soon

Brad Sugars is still in Australia. Just last week he was in Brisbane for ActionCOACH’s Asia-Pacific Conference, but he’s sticking around to start off his Business is Booming tour.

The Westpac-owned St George Bank is a sponsor for Brad Sugars’ Australian Business is Booming tour. After speaking in Australian cities, he’ll start a U.S. Business is Booming tour in March.

While some world and business leaders recently expressed caution about the state of the global economy at the World Economic Forum in Davos, the 38-year-old Sugars seems a little more upbeat. For one, his tour is called ”Business is Booming”.

A New Site to Get Business Info

Business coaching is the second-fastest growing industry worldwide.

Business coaching is the 2nd-fastest growing industry worldwide.

There are lots of places to find all things business on the Web: blogs, websites, news articles, etc.

ActionCOACH just added one more outlet for information to the mix: BusinessCoaching.com. The blog was launched as a tool to help Business Coaches, their clients and the business coaching community. Blog posts discuss current business trends and issues and how they relate to business today, as well as highlight ActionCOACH successes.

Business coaching is still a relatively new business industry, but the fact of the matter is, it is becoming a popular way for companies to edge out competitors, and there are several statistics to prove it.

Business coaching is the second fastest growing industry in the world, after IT, according to the National Post. In addition, business coaching is just about the norm for companies in countries outside the U.S., such as U.K. and Australia.

A University of Bristol newsletter printed this fact back in 2005: “Use of coaching is widespread in UK organisations, with almost nine in 10 respondents reporting that they now use coaching in their organisation (88%).”

In addition, the Australian Institute of Management reported to Inside Business that 70% of its member companies hire business coaches.

With business coaching growing at a rapid pace, BusinessCoaching.com will keep up with all industry issues.

Learn the Ways of Business from More than One Mentor

Brad Sugars is an excellent mentor – he clearly knows the ins and outs of business; he started ActionCOACH in 1993 in Australia, and now it’s a worldwide franchise.

But even people like Brad have mentors they’ve learned from over the years. In fact, sharing the advice from the people he’s learned from over the years was the inspiration for his new audio Web series “Master Mentors.”

One of those mentors is Brian Tracy. He actually was the first person featured in Brad’s “Master Mentors” series. Tracy is a best-selling author and motivational speaker who has helped more than 4 million people achieve their goals.

Not even great mentors like Brad know everything there is to know about a subject they’re experts in, like business or business coaching. There’s always more to learn.

Preparing for Fall and Winter

It’s the end of summer, heading into fall, for most places in the world…and for some countries, the weather is spring, heading into summer.

If you’re a business owner, you know very well that there are business “seasons,” as well. And while the U.S. continues to operate in its “economic winter,” parts of the Asia Pacific are in full fledged “economic summer.”

But, as ActionCOACH founder and CEO Brad Sugars knows, even though it might be an “economic summer,” that doesn’t mean businesses don’t need coaching.

That’s the myth of the business – that when a business is successful, it doesn’t need any coaching. But the truth is, every business could be doing better – no matter what economic season the world is in.

Sugars started a five-day ”Business is Booming” tour on August 10th in Brisbane, Australia to help dispel this myth. He’ll speak in a different city each day – Brisbane, Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide – and share with small and medium-sized business owners successful selling strategies, how to attain and keep repeat business, and how to plan for successful outcomes and results, among other strategies.

Tickets to attend were free, and his first show in Brisbane was sold out. More than 1,000 people were in attendance.

Business owners often look at needing a coach as a sign that they’re not doing well on their own. But that’s not always the case – Plenty of athletes, like Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods, won titles and championships after guidance from their coaches.

It just goes to show that people are thinking smart about business, and even if a business is doing well, it’s silly to turn down business advice that could help business begin to boom. Especially when it’s free!
