Chicago Bears and the San Francisco 49ers were struggling after 3-1 starts. The Bears won only one of their last four games against the Browns, and the 49ers have lost their last four.
Both teams have a Pro Bowl linebacker (Bears’ Lance Briggs, 49ers’ Patrick Willis) and good tight ends (Bears’ Greg Olsen with six touchdown receptions, 49ers’ Vernon Davis with seven). The Bears have a better quarterback, Jay Cutler, but the 49ers have a better running back, Frank Gore.
With such equally talented teams, the winner of Thursday’s big game came down to who was the better coach: Lovie Smith of the Bears, or Mike Singletary of the 49ers?
Some people might argue that Cutler’s ill-fated pass in the last six seconds of the game was the make or break in the Bears coming out ahead vs. losing. But those are the athletes playing, and they’re doing what their coach is advising them to do.
The Bears and the 49ers followed plays their coaches thought best, and the 49ers ended up winning.
Mike Singletary coached the offense and defense well. And this led to his team winning.
In a game with teams this close in talent, it just goes to show the importance of a great coach.

Very interesting post (and blog). Brad, you are a lucky man to have this ‘contributer’ in your corner. Keep-up the great work.
